What is the difference between dyeing and printing
By the printing process, dyes are applied on the fabric localizedly to produce desired design. Fabric, yarn and fibers are dyed by dyeing. Generally printing is done on fabric. In a dyeing process, dyes are applied on the both sides of the fabric. Dyes are applied on olnly one side of the fabric. No precise design is required for dyeing.
Design is must for printing. In a dyeing process, only one dye is used. In a printing process, one or more dye is used. Precise temperature is required for dyeing. Dyeing is one of the very important departments of the textile sector.
All kinds of yarn, fabric are dyed by applying dyeing application, where liquor ratio is higher than printing. It should be noted here that, color penetrates through the fabric by applying dyeing application. It is also a cheap process than printing. Printing is normally done on a fabric surface where the liquor ratio is lower than dyeing application. Huge time is required for dye application. Liquor ratio is high. Pigments or dyes applied locally or discontinuously to produce different designs on the fabric is known as printing.
It is performed on fabric in dry condition. Full-bleaching with optical whitener is essential. Printing is done on fabrics only. Colour is applied in form of thick paste. For printing there is a specific design. Dyes are applied on single side of the fabric. One or more colours are used in printing process. Colour is applied only on the surface. Carried out at room temperature.
Thickener must be used. To know whether a fabric has been dyed or printed, examine the outline of the design. The edges of the design are sharply defined on the right side of the Printed fabric. The entire design seldom penetrates to the back of the cloth. Examine some of the raveled yarns.
